PM: Support Peace and Development and ASEAN for Maintenance of Peace in Asia-Pacific

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen told the Director General of the Universal Peace Federation, Yun Young-Ho, that the promotion and maintenance of peace in the Asia-Pacific region must have three principles: to have the goal of supporting peace and development, to not be against any group or country, and to support the ASEAN union for the Asia-Pacific.

Minister Delegate Attached to the Prime Minister, Kao Kim Hourn, told reporters after the meeting between Prime Minister Hun Sen and Director General Yun Young-Ho, that the meeting was organized to gather and receive advice from the Prime Minister for the organization of the Universal Peace Foundation’s 2022 Summit on peace in the Korean Peninsula, which the Prime Minister will personally attend on 12 and 13 February.

During the meeting, Director General Yun Young-Ho expressed his support for the work of Prime Minister Hun Sen, who traveled to Myanmar on 7 January and successfully achieved a ceasefire extension until the end of 2022. He also stated his support to the ASEAN special envoy to Myanmar for assisting the negotiations as well. He described the Prime Minister's work as chair of ASEAN at the beginning of the year as a fruitful achievement in maintaining peace in Myanmar and the region as a whole.

Previously, on 12 September 2021, the 7th World Rally for Hope: Think Tank 2022, organized by the Universal Peace Federation, a network of international organizations, celebrities and religious people, presented the World Summit Peace Gold Medal to Prime Minister Hun Sen, for playing a key role in helping keep the Korean Peninsula and the world at peace. The Prime Minister will also be attending the UPF’s Summit on peace in the Korean Peninsula next month, with former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon as co-chair, and the attendance of other leaders and dignitaries from 157 countries. More than 200,000 people are also expected to attend the summit virtually, and about 3,500 media outlets will be covering the meeting.
